Open Position: Lead Language Arts and Social Studies Teacher Full-Time: Starts August 2021 or soonerPosition Overview Founded in 2016 by a TFA alumna, Nomad is a progressive, independent school in San Francisco’s Mission district that serves a diverse group of both full-time students (5 days per week) and part-time students (4 days per week). Nomad is an experiential, play- and project-based program with an emphasis on applied learning out in the real world with a fierce commitment to racial, social, and environmental justice. Our students, ages 8-14, are intentionally grouped in mixed-age cohorts of 10-12 students. These cohorts spend nearly half of their time outside of our physical classroom space learning from experts, excursions/field trips, and the resources of our community. We travel via foot, our own Nomad activity bus, and public transportation. We deeply value and trust our students as people, thinkers, and community members. We are seeking a full-time lead humanities teacher who is passionate about progressive, project-based education, loves collaborating with 8-14 year olds in inquiry and play, and is confident working closely in small teams of colleagues and parents. The ideal candidate for this position has experience teaching language arts and/or social studies to middle-school aged students. Candidates must be dedicated to active, constructivist pedagogy. Our program immerses students in thematic concepts through frequent excursions and field trips (2x per week), expert-led workshops, individual and small-group projects, and rigorous academic preparation.
