UPPER SCHOOL – SOCIAL SCIENCE TEACHER (TALENT POOL FOR 2020-2021 SCHOOL YEAR)
The role of the Upper School U.S. History Teacher is to promote literacy across disciplines and collaborate to assess student work, design curriculum, and improve personal practice. Teachers are expected to actively engage and participate in culture building, including but not limited to classroom, lunch, and hallway norms and expectations. Teachers are also expected to invest and engage in the work of developing a results-oriented, collegial and productive team-oriented approach to the work.The US History teacher should have a background in the major events, trends, and themes of United States History from the pre-Columbian Era to the present day. United States History should focus on major events of importance in American culture and integrate often-marginalized perspectives so that students are aware of multiple perspectives and narratives throughout the history of the nation. Historical study at MWAUS should incorporate primary/secondary source analysis, media and technology integration, and many opportunities for students to critically analyze past events, people, and choices and compare/ contrast to current events. The US History teacher should seek to create links between past and present to help students see relevance and provide opportunities for students to practice and master analysis, critical thinking, and informational-text based reading and writing skills.
