Your responsibilities will include:
  • Builds and maintains classroom culture that is supportive and learning-centered, undergirded by strong management, efficient procedures, and systems, but most evident in the full inclusion of African-American boys, students with trauma, and students with IEPs in the social and learning community.
  • Internalize and deliver school-wide curriculum aligned to the common core standards in all content areas.
  • Plan and implement effective, grade-level lessons that are learner-driven, navigate the tension between directive and facilitative approaches and are modified or differentiated to provide access and results for Students with IEPs and ELL scholars.
  • Urgency, driven by data that prioritizes Individualized and small group instruction with standards-based work stations during which time students are given authentic opportunities to explore their depth of knowledge in multiple ways, given tools to tackle challenging work, and supported to demonstrate their knowledge at the highest quality.
  • Rigorous assessments through which students wrestle with complex integrated problems, are taught to mastery in a culture of reteach informed by data.

  • B.A. or B.S. required; Master’s Degree, preferred
  • Appropriate California Teaching Credential or commitment to acquire one
  • Deep knowledge of California Common Core State Standards, inquiry-based learning, curriculum planning, and data analysis, preferred
  • 2+ years teaching urban youth with transformational results
  • Familiarity navigating educational platforms
  • Experience teaching in a progressive school model
  • Bilingual in Spanish preferred
SUPERVISIONThis position will report to the K-8 Principal, Tina Hernandez, and 5-8 Assistant Principal, Kelly Norris. TIME COMMITMENTThis position is 1.0 FTE (full-time exempt) and follows a 10-month (190 day) work year with significant student-free days for professional learning and collaboration with colleagues and interaction with families.
