About KIPP Bay Area Public Schools KIPP is a non-profit network of 224 college-preparatory, public charter schools across the country educating early childhood, elementary, middle, and high school students. KIPP schools are united by a common mission, a commitment to excellence, and a belief that if we help children develop the academic and character strengths they need for college and choice-filled lives, they will be able to build a better tomorrow for themselves, for their communities, and for us all.There are currently 15 KIPP schools across the Bay Area educating nearly 6,000 students in East Palo Alto, Oakland, San Francisco, San Lorenzo, San Jose, and Redwood City and supporting over 3,000 alumni around the country.SCOPE OF THE WORK: We are seeking to hire a part-time family engagement manager to support the launch of KIPP in Stockton. This person will be an extension of our team and will be charged with promoting KIPP,  supporting student enrollment and maintaining effective communication between KIPP and student’s families. This is a 12-month role available immediately. The scope of the work is broad and dynamic and we expect this person to work closely with KIPP’s regional team.KEY AREAS OF WORK & EXPECTED OUTCOMES & ACTIVITIES Reporting to KIPP Bay Area’s Director of Growth, the Family Engagement Manager will lead the following activities and take responsibility for the following outcomes:1. Build a strong base of families and demand for KIPP in South StocktonOn a weekly basis,
  • Host and lead meetings (5-10) one-on-one and in small groups to build awareness about KIPP and develop a list of prospective students.
  • Build and update the list of families interested in enrolling at KIPP (current 2nd and 3rd graders in 2021 and 2022).
  • Within six months, collaborate with the KIPP Team to host a town hall with 100+ families interested in enrolling in 5th grade in June 2021.
  • 2. Connect with community-based organizations to help KIPP understand the community and support student enrollment Every week, Identify and attend events that could lead to meet parents of 5th graders. Host one on one meetings with community organizations and leaders. Within one month, Prepare a stakeholder map that outlines the key community-based and faith organizations and leaders that KIPP should connect with. Within six months, prepare a memo with a summary of: The community’s most important needs and care about for the new schools The opportunities and challenges to address in the coming months Concrete recommendations
3. Develop a strong working relationship with the KIPP Team and keep them informed about the family engagement work and key insights On a weekly basis, share key findings and insights with the KIPP Team and update the project plan Qualifications and Desired CharacteristicsAbility to self‐direct and prioritize among competing goals, exhibit flexibility, and drive results in a fast‐paced, entrepreneurial environment; Experience building new organizations or projects Deep understanding of charter schools and the local political environment Excellent communication and presentation skills with keen attention to detail; Capacity to think strategically and critically about social, economic, cultural, and political issues affecting a community; Confidence, empathy, emotional intelligence, and persuasiveness; Unquestioned integrity and commitment to KIPP Bay Areas’ mission and values; Excellent project management skills; Ability to quickly build trusting relationships with a broad set of people, including parents, external stakeholders, school staff, and teammates; Skilled at analyzing, interpreting, and using data to collaborate, identify best practices and areas for improvement, and drive results; Spanish fluency or proficiency required.Compensation We are dedicated to you and your family's well-being!
