About KIPP Bay Area Public Schools KIPP is a non-profit network of 224 college-preparatory, public charter schools across the country educating early childhood, elementary, middle, and high school students. KIPP schools are united by a common mission, a commitment to excellence, and a belief that if we help children develop the academic and character strengths they need for college and choice-filled lives, they will be able to build a better tomorrow for themselves, for their communities, and for us all.There are currently 15 KIPP schools across the Bay Area educating nearly 6,000 students in East Palo Alto, Oakland, San Francisco, San Lorenzo, San Jose, and Redwood City and supporting over 3,000 alumni around the country.Position Overview The Advocacy, Family and Community Engagement Manager will join KIPP Bay Area Public Schools’ Regional Support Office during a critical juncture as we expand from 15 to over 20 schools. Reporting to our Associate Director of Community Engagement, this position will support and manage strategic initiatives within KIPP Bay Area Public Schools in our San Francisco school communities, focused primarily on family and community engagement, and advocacy.This person will be KIPP’s ambassador in our San Francisco communities and will serve as the primary community and family engagement lead, cultivating relationships with key partners in the surrounding communities to our four existing schools in San Francisco including but not limited to community-based organizations, faith-based organizations, and other community leaders.This person needs to embody a deep sense of humility and desire to serve families and students as well as the ability to quickly build trust and adapt to changing situations and environments. This job is dynamic and challenging and, for the right person, extremely rewarding as we bring high-quality school options to transform lives and communities.This person will be based out of our Regional Office in downtown Oakland at least once a week (BART accessible). The job will require car travel to our local schools and communities throughout San Francisco.Roles and Responsibilities Advocacy Engagement and Strategic Projects Under the direction of the Associate Director of Community Engagement, support KIPP Bay Area Public Schools’ advocacy goals and lead engagement strategy and plan to activate families in growth and political processes. Create and execute a vision for the San Francisco Family Leadership Council (FLC) and build an active team of family advocates and leaders to support advocacy engagement locally as well as statewide. Support KIPP Bay Area leadership with building strong relationships with elected officials at a local, state and national level.Recruitment and EnrollmentConsult the operations team to prepare for community outreach efforts, provide community events for recruitingFamily EngagementOversee implementation of family engagement structures such as the KIPP Family Association (KFA) and other family engagement efforts. Provide resources, tools and one on one support to school staff to build strong family engagement culture on campus as well as workshops, training for families that align with their interests and professional development goals. Collaborate with school staff to create opportunities for authentic family involvement in schools.Community Outreach and EngagementCultivate strong relationships and serve as a liaison between KIPP schools and our communities through strong asset maps, community-based organization engagement, and partnership with local stakeholders Attend and plan community events, become part of local coalitions, report back important information to support broader community engagement strategy. Identify opportunities for partnership and enable our schools to serve as a resource within their broader communities; support other KIPP staff with building relationships with current KIPP families.Data Tracking and Project ManagementManage data to track family and community stakeholder engagement, voter registration, and CBO engagement to inform organizing and political strategy. Create strong project plans to manage specific outcomes and events, with key milestones and indicators of progress.Qualifications and Desired CharacteristicsDeep knowledge of the San Francisco community and relationships with stakeholders highly desired; Experience in community organizing desired; Demonstrated commitment to the families and students of San Francisco; Strong written, verbal communication, and presentation skills with keen attention to detail; Adept at thinking strategically, translating plans into action, and exhibiting excellent judgment; Integrity and commitment to KIPP Bay Area Public Schools’ mission and values; Strong project management skills, with the ability to motivate and engage a diverse group of leaders, vendors, and partner agencies; Ability to quickly build trusting relationships with a broad set of people, including families, external stakeholders, school staff, and teammates; Ability to understand data and use data to influence and advocate for families; Ability to self‐direct and prioritize among competing goals, exhibit flexibility, and drive for results in a fast‐paced, entrepreneurial environment; Spanish fluency or proficiency highly desired.Compensation We are dedicated to you and your family's well-being!
