The MLDS socializes instructional models and systems that lead to student engagement, academic growth, agency, and achievement. The MLDS supports and collaborates on leadership programming so it is tightly integrated within Alpha’s mission and vision, which is informed by Alpha’s commitment to equity. Reporting to the Managing Director of Academics and serving as an integral member of the Academic Team, the MLDS operates in a coaching and consulting role by evaluating and implementing systems, strategies, and practices in curriculum, instruction, and assessment. MLDS is responsible for implementing a highly effective instructional coaching model that results in a school leadership and teaching corps committed to addressing equity in education.An ideal candidate possesses a deep understanding of and passion for literacy and language development in and across all content disciplines with an appreciation for how disciplines construct knowledge. We're committed to finding leaders who value and amplify the diverse experiences of our staff and scholars and their families, and who care deeply about addressing the inequities that exist in education.What you’ll do…Builds upon and supports leaders with the execution and achievement of academic goals and future goals currently being finalized Champions, leads, develops, and supports the architecture, systems, socialization, and deep learning involved in the implementation of Alpha Public Schools Instructional model Effectively supports structures and planning with the instructional coaching team through high-quality professional development, prioritization and accountability; builds high-performing, collaborative, and innovative team culture Facilitates the development of exemplary instructional coaches in all aspects of their role, including but not limited to: Executing effective coaching cycles connected to targeted areas of need for teachers and students Designing, coordinating, and supporting effective learning labs Designing transformative professional development experiences over time Utilizing effective coaching practices (basic knowledge, relationships, strategic design, coaching conversations, strategic actions, coach as a learner) Utilizing formative and summative student, teacher, and coaching data to improve teacher practice and effectiveness Forming indispensable relationships with their site admin to further the learning of all Teammates, Facilitating teacher development 1-on-1, in content and grade-level groupings, and in PLCs Integrating and supporting site culture and climate practices and strategies Managing caseloads to maximize teacher learning and risk-taking with support Develops systems to regularly gather, analyze, and take action on data (student achievement and engagement, teacher practices, curriculum, student, teacher, and parent attitudes) that bring about a continual and measurable improvement of APS’s learning environment and student performance Leads, supports, and coaches instructional coaches and school leaders on observing teachers, presenting, and using observation data You possess…Bachelor’s Degree Required (Master's Degree or higher in Education or a related field preferred) 5 years of experience as an Instructional Coach, AP, and/or Principal Expertise in building the systems and practices that support high performing student and adult learning cultures Deep familiarity with the Common Core State Standards Strong analytical and communication skills You stand out by being…Deep commitment to and/or extensive experience serving low-income, first-generation college students Proven ability as a master teacher of adults in elementary, middle and/or high school environments, including modeling effective teaching, coaching, and leadership practices; articulating a vision for effective instruction and the systems needed to support it; creating learning networks; and inviting critique of one’s own practice and reflecting upon it Expert in using a variety of evidence and data to inform effective and timely feedback to support the instructional coach and teacher development Highly skilled at organizing and prioritizing in a demanding context to maximize instructional coach, teacher, and student growth such that coaching remains guarded time whether in 1-to-1 or group coaching configurations Demonstrates a high degree of emotional intelligence, self-reflection and humility, proactively building trust and practicing service leadership Join our team…To apply for this position, please submit a resume and cover letter online.Alpha Public Schools is a network of four high-performing public charter schools founded by a group of East San José mothers dedicated to helping transform their community.
