GENERAL SUMMARY The mission of Alder Graduate School of Education (Alder) is to create opportunity and to cultivate success for every student by recruiting and educating excellent teachers and leaders who reflect our schools’ communities.We offer a teacher residency program that provides students with the opportunity to earn a Master’s degree and teaching credential in one year and an apprenticeship with an experienced mentor teacher four days a week in a partner K-12 school. Since 2010 we have educated over 350 teachers across California and Memphis, and data show that our graduates are more effective as teachers, stay in the profession longer, and their demographics more closely mirror those of the K-12 students.As we grow and scale to new K-12 school systems, our data and systems needs are becoming increasingly complex. We are looking for a Director of Data Strategy & Systems who will implement Alder’s data strategy and lead the implementation, coordination, and maintenance of Alder’s data systems. The ideal candidate will be a strategic and analytical individual with strong information technology and data management expertise. We are looking for somebody who is passionate about educational equity and is willing to roll up their sleeves and get to work.Alder is an equal opportunity employer, and we value diversity. ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES The Director of Data Strategy & Systems is responsible for implementing Alder’s data strategy; maintaining Alder’s data warehouse; providing support for the integration and maintenance of Alder’s other data systems such as the customer relationship management system (CRM), applicant tracking system (ATS), learning management platform (LMS), and student information system (SIS); and overseeing Alder’s third party IT vendor to support these systems and the needs of Alder staff. DATA STRATEGY
  • Define and implement Alder’s data strategy
  • Co-chair Alder’s Data Management Council
  • Maintain a data dictionary and procedural standards for consistency in gathering and maintaining institutional data across Alder and all its K-12 partners
  • Ensure that all staff and faculty are knowledgeable about and in compliance with FERPA requirements and best practices for handling sensitive data
  • Stay current with research on data management, institutional research, and IT trends in the context of institutional needs; proactively identify improvement opportunities and share with leadership
 SYSTEMS MANAGEMENT
  • Maintain Alder’s central data repository system, Alder Impact Measures (AIM); facilitate the updating of AIM from Alder’s various data systems, ensuring the integrity of the data
  • Provide leadership for the development of dashboards using AIM data
  • Support and ensure integration of Alder’s data systems including the CRM, ATS, LMS, and SIS
  • Work collaboratively with all departments and K-12 school partners to ensure the integrity and consistency of data in Alder’s data systems
  • Oversee Alder’s third party IT vendor to ensure budget is on track, staff IT needs are met, and Alder’s hardware and software are kept up to date
  • Manage servers, login credentials, and overall system integrity to ensure the security of data for Alder and all partners
 RESEARCH AND REPORTING SUPPORT
  • Collaborate with the Associate Director of Impact Measurement to collect, analyze, create visualizations, interpret, and report institutional data for a variety of constituencies
  • Complete or ensure the completion of all required accreditation, state, federal, and funder reports
  • Provide leadership for the development and execution of surveys and other evaluation instruments by staff and faculty, to ensure the validity of results
 QUALIFICATIONS 1) Required knowledge, skills, and abilities:Data strategy
  • Experience defining a data strategy
  • Knowledge of FERPA and related requirements
  • Knowledge of best practices for ensuring the security of data and systems
Technical and data management skills
  • Experience developing and maintaining a database Familiarity with Tableau or other data visualization software
  • Experience overseeing IT needs for staff (hardware, software, servers) a plus
  • Experience with student information systems a plus
  • Experience with customer relationship management and applicant tracking systems a plus
Analytical skills
  • Ability to manipulate, summarize, and produce reports from multiple, large, and complex data sets
  • Ability to visualize and present data in a manner that is easy for all audiences to understand o
  • Ability to understand and interpret data, both qualitative and quantitative o Impeccable attention to detail, data quality, and accuracy

 2) Educational level required:
  • Bachelor’s degree required
  • Master’s degree preferred in a research or analytical field of study, such as statistics, business administration, industrial/organizational psychology, computer science, data science, educational research, or a closely related field
 3) Experience required:
  • Five to seven years of database, information, or IT management experience
  • Expertise in defining a data strategy
  • Expertise in implementing, integrating, and maintaining data systems
  • Experience working in a start-up or dealing with ambiguity
  • Knowledge of best practices for handling sensitive data including survey responses and personally identifiable information
  • Expertise in survey design a plus
  • Previous higher education administrative experience a plus
