2020-21: Dean of Students
Position SummaryWe are looking for an optimistic, tenacious Dean of Students for ACE Charter High School! Reporting to the School Principal, you will be leading school-wide initiatives to support students social-emotional development and build an optimistic school culture that is fundamental to achieving our mission. You believe that a warm, firm, and safe classroom culture is the foundation of academic success. You are a collaborator, as this role works closely with all stakeholders--Principal, students, teachers, and families.The Dean of Students reports to the High School Principal.ResponsibilitiesPositive School CultureOversee development of school site culture calendar, log all events on reporting tool Collaborate with Office Manager to report student retention data monthly Ensures successful implementation of Student Engagement system to create an optimistic culture (PBIS) Manage the Positive Behavior Interventionist to support with student check-in’s and ensure students are on track to reach their goals. Build authentic relationships with students and families; consistently reinforce the belief that all students have the capacity to be successful through college. Ensures successful implementation of Student Engagement system to ensure an optimistic culture of high expectations, including but not limited to: Using Kickboard reports Assisting with training of staff, students, families Processing students sent out of class Running detention Managing the Culture Calendar Provide push-in behavioral support for students and teachers as needed. Assists in Spanish-English translation when staff needs to communicate with exclusively Spanish-speaking familiesSafe CampusDevelop campus supervision schedule Train, provide feedback to, and oversee staff supervising campus Oversee and report on suspension processes/data Coordinate Expulsion process, including finding of team, working with lawyers, providing all necessary documentation E.D. to present to ACE Board of DirectorsSchool LeadershipHelp all staff work through the particular stresses and challenges of working with students who are struggling in a high-stakes environment Coach a portion of teaching staff Create an environment of mutual respect, data-driven decision-making, and action behind school goals Provide successful supervision of staff through the articulation of clear goals, use of job descriptions, coaching, development of growth plans, and effective alignment of staff work to ACE Strategic Plan Lead the Administrative Team in fostering a culture of transparency, openness, accountability, and stakeholder engagement Supports with new student and family recruitment efforts. Attend school-wide events on a rotating basisGeneral School SupportAttend IEP meetings to identify and action plan around the student’s behavior intervention needs. Communicate effectively and respectfully with all stakeholders.
