2020-21 Ethnic Studies Teacher
We are looking for an activist, educator and culture-builder to join our high school team as an Ethnic Studies teacher! This is a new course for the 9th graders - this course will be a pillar of our 9th grade transition plan. We hope that the 9th graders will be encouraged to build community by engaging in conversations around identity, power and privilege. You are a patient optimist - you understand that trusting relationships are foundational to teaching practice. You have high academic expectations, believing wholeheartedly that every student has the potential to thrive in college.This role reports to the school principal.ResponsibilitiesMaintain the unwavering belief in the extraordinary potential of every student. Maintain a growth mindset with all stakeholders. Build authentic relationships with students by serving as a mentor; consistently reinforce the belief that all students have the capacity to be successful through college. Build authentic relationships with families through school events, phone calls and conferences. Facilitate students’ mastery of academic standards through long-term planning, daily and weekly lesson plans, and execution of rigorous and engaging daily instruction. Collaborate with ACE Learning Specialists to support a full-inclusion model of Special Education to the greatest extent possible.. Create a warm yet firm classroom culture through consistent implementation of behavior ladders. Celebrate student growth, as well as proficiency Host office hours for students twice weekly (and as needed). Consistently integrate coaching feedback. Communicate effectively and respectfully with all stakeholders. Approach professional development (training, observations, coaching and feedback) with commitment and reflection.
