Meet two of our Bay Area staff

Tamila Gresham

Director, Alumni Talent Recruitment

Why TFA-Bay Area?

There are few places where I feel encouraged and empowered to be fully and authentically me. The Bay Area, especially my team at TFA, tops the list. I get to do something I love, with people I adore, in one of the most beautiful places on Earth (I literally thought raindrops on my roof had to be a squirrel because I forgot rain was a thing!).

What core beliefs motivate and drive your work?

I am passionate about cultivating and providing opportunities for my fellow TFA alumni to create transformational change wherever their potential and passions lead them. TFA alumni are a diverse community capable of the collective, visionary leadership necessary to dismantle and radically reimagine our nation’s oppressive systems and institutions.

Phil Kang

Director, Alumni Educator Engagement

Why TFA Bay Area?

From sharing best places to eating lunch to talking about the most recent Revisionist History podcast, I get to work with passionate, funny, kind, and motivated people every day.

What core beliefs motivate and drive your work?

“The fight is never about grapes and lettuce. It is always about people.” – Cesar Chavez

I am humbled to work alongside 300+ alumni educators doing impactful and amazing work with students down here in the South Bay.

Our Values

Our core values define who we are at our best and guide our work together.

Pursue Equity: We work to change practices, structures, and policies to realize educational equity for all children. As we do so, we actively examine our roles in perpetuating inequitable systems.

Strengthen Community: We assume responsibility for our collective strength by developing relationships, building diverse and inclusive coalitions, and challenging one another to be our best. We act with empathy and extend grace to ourselves and others.

Achieve Impact: We pursue ambitious, meaningful outcomes that lead to access and opportunity for all children. We hold ourselves to high standards, make data-informed decisions, and orient to long-term success.

Choose Courage: We act on our beliefs and values, especially when it’s hard. We center our efforts on the aspirations of our students and their families.

Act with Humility: We acknowledge the limitations of our perspectives. We seek different points of view and historical context to evolve our thinking and actions.

Demonstrate Resilience: We see every challenge as an opportunity to think expansively about
solutions. When faced with obstacles, we deepen our resolve, adapt, and persist with optimism.

Learn Continuously: We operate with curiosity and embrace new ideas to innovate and constantly improve. We take informed risks and learn from successes, setbacks, and each other.
